Thornhill Farm
Thornhill Farm is an outreach ministry of Healing Farm Ministries, Inc. dedicated to serving families touched by developmental disabilities.
Thornhill Farm is a lovely 100 acre farm in rural South Carolina – located on Highway 17 between Charleston and Myrtle Beach. It is a special place where people with developmental disabilities can live and work, welcome visitors and become an integral part of their local community.

1 Samuel 16: 7 …The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.

It is our goal that the farm/retreat will be used as a PR tool, raising awareness of the needs of the developmentally disabled and demonstrating their abilities to contribute positively to society and their God-ordained importance to any community.

How many will be served?

Over the course of a year – hundreds of adults and children will be served in day care, respite, therapeutic and recreational programs.

We anticipate housing over twenty adults at the farm – four to six adults with disabilities and as many caring adults will live as a family in each of several houses on the farm, but no large institution will ever be permitted.

We also anticipate using funds raised to develop other farms and open additional housing “off campus,” within the local communities.

Results of the project:

  • Families will see their adult disabled children living lives of meaning and value among people who recognize their gifts of heart and spirit.
  • Families of young children with disabilities will see hope and support for what lies ahead.
  • Other agencies will see opportunities to collaborate in work programs, therapeutic recreation, and practicum placements for trainees.
  • Our public officials and voters will see the quality of life raised for ALL citizens, and Charleston County once more, a model for other communities.
  • Neighbors will see a well kept, flourishing estate, helping to stabilize property values and humanize suburban development with green space.
  • Licensing boards like DHEC will see a faith-based fully licensed and staffed rural residential home for adults with developmental disabilities, providing the highest level residential care in the State.

"I believe it makes sense to have diversity of choices that can meet the unique needs of South Carolina's population with developmental disabilities. To that end, I think Healing Farm Ministries can offer real hope for the future for not only the families affected by developmental disabilities, but also for our agricultural communities. That's why I want to thank Healing Farm Ministries for the work they're doing both for some of our most vulnerable citizens and toward enhancing the quality of life in our state."

Governor Mark Sanford (SC)

"Thornhill Farm is a place that people with disabilities and their families can relax and enjoy the "farm experience"; from feeding the animals to fishing, music, hayrides and more. It is a place of rustic grace and charm and the people I serve always look forward to visiting the "Farm".

I am deeply grateful for the privilege of being aware of this ministry and the awesome blessing it is, and will continue to grow in being, not only for those w/mentally challenged family members, but for those, like myself, whose lives have been and will be touched by the Face of God seen in the faces of those so challenged.
